Editorial Standards

Books are considered for their literary quality, relevance to H&S readers, cultural or personal resonance, and contribution to a larger conversation. Inclusion is selective rather than automatic.

Recommendations reflect an editorial judgment, not a promise that every reader will share the same experience. We aim to offer context about why a work matters rather than simply promote it.

Editorial choices belong to H&S. Affiliate relationships do not guarantee inclusion or favorable coverage, and commerce considerations do not automatically determine what is published.

When a recommendation includes an affiliate link, H&S provides a nearby disclosure. A resulting commission does not change the purchase price and does not substitute for editorial review.

Sponsored or paid work will be clearly identified when published. A commercial relationship does not entitle a partner to undisclosed control over editorial conclusions.

H&S aims to correct meaningful factual errors promptly and transparently. Minor typographical or formatting changes may be made without a formal correction note.

Factual claims are checked to a level appropriate to the subject and form. Personal essays may express a contributor’s experience or perspective; those passages are presented as such.

Writers, photographers, artists, and other contributors should be credited where appropriate. H&S does not present third-party book covers or publisher materials as its own original artwork.
